Being involved in the Jungle scene in the early 90's as Jungle MC playing on the legendary pirate radio station Kool FM, Nathan was already well versed in performing. After leaving school and working as a labourer, followed by a 'dead end job'........ literally! Nathan was by chance given a flute by a good friend who encouraged him to take it up. Inspired, he taught himself to play, then fusing his new found love of the flute with his 'Old Skool' beatbox style and as they say.... The rest is history. His unique brand of Fluteboxing was born
From humble beginnings, sneaking round the back of his local pub, the legendary Bull's Head in Barnes, listening to the Jazz greats for free or playing impromptu gigs at the Cats Back Public House for friends and fellow musicians, Nathan has forged his own path.
Taking influences from idols such as Miles Davies, Roland Kirk, John Coltrane, Guru and DJ Premier, Schooly D, London Posse, Rick James, he created his own brand music, a futuristic hybrid of two art forms.
Fast forward a few years of hard work, sweat, tears and dedication to his craft, you can see his rise has been fairly meteoric. Nathan has performed all over the world and is forever striving to push new boundaries with his music.
He is a previous Artist in Residence at the renowned Southbank Centre in London, and played a sell-out show to an eager audience at the prestigious Purcell Room, hosted by the legendary and irrepressible Howard Marks, and featuring a multitude of talented collaborators.
2011 was a huge year for the extraordinary that is Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee. His debut 'Flutebox EP' produced by Multi Award Winning Champion Turntablist DJ Tigerstyle, was released in April, to widespread critical acclaim amongst press and radio.
